Heritage is putting the family at the center of everything we do in 2026. Our team published Saving America by Saving the Family — a 165-page landmark report on the institution that holds civilization together. It’s the first in a series we’re calling the Family First Initiative

Marriage rates, birthrates, fathers disengaged, family stability — the trend lines all point the wrong direction. Our researchers have been documenting it for two decades. The 2026 report is the most comprehensive we’ve ever published.

The Family First Initiative is built across five fronts — law, education, technology, health, and culture. Heritage scholars are putting forward concrete policy proposals to correct the trends. None of them are abstract. Each one ties back to giving parents and families more agency, not less.

Before our team finalizes the next round of recommendations, we want our members on record about which family policies you’d put first.

★ WHAT THE FAMILY FIRST INITIATIVE FIGHTS FOR ★

  • Marriage is on a two-decade decline — Heritage’s research documents why and what’s reversing it.
  • Fatherhood involvement at historic lows — naming the policy levers that bring fathers home.
  • Birthrate trajectory threatens generational continuity — Heritage’s reform agenda answers it.
  • Parents — not bureaucrats — should have the final say in their children’s education.
  • Five fronts: law, education, technology, health, culture. Concrete policy proposals on every one.

“The family is the foundation of civilization, and marriage — the committed union of one man and one woman — is its cornerstone.”
