As a Heritage member, there are a number of ways you can make an impactful gift in support of America and potentially reduce the government’s claim on your retirement savings.

Make a Gift Now

Current law allows Americans age 70 ½ or older to make tax-free, charitable gifts of up to $100,000 annually from their Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) to their favorite charities. This is great news for Heritage members who want to make a tax-free gift in support of freedom and opportunity rather than send their hard-earned dollars to Washington. Your gift would count toward your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD), potentially minimizing your taxes.

Here’s how to take advantage of this opportunity:

  1. Call your IRA custodian and ask them to make your gift payable directly to “The Heritage Foundation.” This check must be made directly from your IRA account to Heritage in order to qualify as a tax-free gift. For those with individual checkbook privileges, you may also make your check payable to The Heritage Foundation and send it directly to Heritage with a note that you are making a charitable gift from your IRA. Checks should be mailed to:

        Lori McNicoll
        The Heritage Foundation
        214 Massachusetts Avenue, NE
        Washington, DC 20002

  2. Call Heritage’s planned giving office at (800) 409-2003 and let us know your plans so we can send you a receipt for your records. If you prefer, you can also email our planned giving office at [email protected]

Did you know that inherited IRA proceeds received by anyone other than a spouse will likely be subject to both estate and income taxes?

Your hard-earned savings could be faced with double, and in some cases triple taxation, leaving your heirs—including children—only pennies on the dollar. Instead, consider naming The Heritage Foundation a beneficiary of your IRA upon death and ensuring 100% of your savings will be used to build a stronger, freer America for future generations. This can be easily accomplished by contacting your IRA account custodian and requesting a change of beneficiary. Heritage’s Tax Identification Number is 23-7327730.
